About the Area
Capital Region Overview
The Capital Region of New York State, a loose term for Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga and Schenectady Counties, is a varied menu of sights, sounds, tastes and institutions to interest, entertain and capture the heart of a newcomer.
From the thunderous roar of the crowd on Travers Day at Saratoga Race Course, to the hushed tones of meaningful benediction at the Governor’s Prayer Breakfast, there is something for everyone. Cultural events, political events, charitable events, athletic events, technological events, educational events, and art events are a constant reminder of the diversity of activity.
The scenic beauty of the area, wearing coats of four very different seasons, is surpassed only by the warmth and friendliness of a huge majority of the inhabitants, in any season.
